Larkswood Pupils Achieve ‘Runners Up’ in ‘Underline’ competition.

A few months ago a group of  Year 6 children created a piece for Art on the Underground’s ‘Underline’ competition. The brief was to produce a piece reflecting an aspect of the Victoria Line using samples that had been provided, sounds they had recorded themselves and music they had created.

To be runners up is a great achievement. This quote from the composer Matt Rogers, who judged the competition is great:

“Technically they’re doing very simple delays, quite broadly and in sections, but somehow, on a purely experiential level, everything is amazing, and the shift to include instruments at 2’32” is sublime, sophisticated in ways that it’s impossible to explain, you can just feel it. Then back to pure samples for the ending, and again it feels amazing.”
